Broadcast Mastering
Masters that pass Italian and European broadcast checks.
Mastering for television, cinema and advertising delivered to the loudness rules that actually apply: AGCOM 219/09/CSP for Italian broadcast, EBU R128 for the rest of Europe.
Same programme, two measurement methods. We master to the one your broadcaster checks against, and send the measurement report with the file.

Italy measures loudness its own way. The algorithm is the familiar ITU-R BS.1770, but the gate is set tighter than the one the rest of Europe uses — which is why a master that passes R128 can still be measured differently here.
- Algorithm
- ITU-R BS.1770, with measuring tools meeting ITU-R BS.1771. Integrated loudness in LKFS.
- Relative gate
- 8 LU below the un-gated level of the material being measured — not the -10 LU of EBU R128 and BS.1770-2.
- Absolute gate
- Samples below -70 LKFS are discarded, so silence does not drag the average down.
- Sampling time
- Between 300 and 1,000 ms, so the measurement can be reproduced on commonly available meters.
- Tolerance
- An advert may not exceed the channel's ordinary level by more than 1.0 LU, both measured with gating.
- Scope
- Digital terrestrial and satellite broadcast in Italy. The primary audio stream is the one assessed.
For everything outside Italian broadcast we work to EBU R128: -23 LUFS integrated, with true-peak and short-term limits. Tell us the destination and we will tell you which one you need.

We would rather you check our summary than take it on trust. Both documents are AGCOM's own — the decree that sets the rule, and the technical study behind it.
- Delibera 219/09/CSP
The decree itself. Allegato A, points 2 to 5, holds the measurement parameters summarised above.
- Technical standards, 2013
AGCOM's study comparing the Italian method with ITU, EBU R128 and ATSC, and how the -8 LU gate came to differ from -10 LU.
